Mission
The International Frege Society aims to
- promote scholarship on Frege’s thought on logic, language and mathematics
- foster collaboration and dialogue among researchers across disciplines and countries
- document, curate, and expand access to Frege materials
Through conferences and workshops, publications, and digital resources, the Society seeks to strengthen the global community of Frege scholars and advance scholarly perspectives on his enduring contributions to logic, mathematics, and the philosophy of language.
Membership
Membership in the International Frege Society is open to all scholars in all countries who are interested in Frege’s work. The Executive Council is currently in the process of deciding how membership in the Society will be structured.
In the meantime, you can subscribe to our mailing list to stay updated about the IFS and to participate in Frege-related discussion; see the Join page.
Statement on Frege’s political views
As is now well-known among scholars, Frege kept a notebook in his later years (the so-called “Politisches Tagebuch”) in which he expresses a number of abhorrent attitudes, including anti-Semitism. We in no way endorse these ugly remarks; and we as a Society are committed to scholarship which acknowledges and helps reduce their harm.
At the same time, we believe Frege’s revolutionary contributions to logic, mathematics, and philosophy remain worthy of study. Our Society is devoted to carrying such study forward.
